Scionwood for sale
Choose scionwood from the list below. 1 scion should make 3 or 4 2-bud grafts. Prices $5 each variety; 2 = $9.00; 3 = $13; 4 = $17; 5=$20; 6 to 10 $3.50ea.;11 to 20 $3.00ea.

Vole activity in the Winter
No rain day. Voles have been active since Mid November girdling apple trees. i mixed up a 4 oz bottle of Dave's Insanity Hot Sauce and some spreader-sticker and sprayed the base of the trees with a good squirt, enough to run down the trunk into the soil line. I can only imagine the big field mouse's face when it takes a nibble at the trunk.
In the spring I know I will have a lot of work bridge-grafting the girdled trees so that they live. grafting and budding publication-see page 4, PDF
If you'd like to help and learn in this endeavor, come on out mid January 12-13th or the following 19th. I will have at least a few dozen trees that need the bridge graft and probably a few will need 2 or 3 on each tree.

Voles in Apple Trees
Many thousands of voles are now eating roots wholesale. I am in the dirt today to recover what I can of the thousand trees that they have chewed.

Skipley Farm
It's been a lollygagging time this wet season. I'm excited about planting brocoli and garlic again. As the sun begins to get up earlier again i find myself relieved that the growth will resume...this is the deep dark mossy part of my lugubrious brain that recovers during this season of light returneth.
i'm excited about growing on my 3300 apple grafts too. This is the study and practice of creating a farm. this is really not that many trees considering that planting 3'x9' = 27 sf/tree = 43560/27 = 1613 trees/acre or about 2 acres. like everyone else, I think I want to share some of this bounty with a neighborly invitation to come pick some fruit 105 varieties of apples, and still i'm missing Holstein-"highly flavored" says Dr. Bob Norton, former WSU director at Mt Vernon Research Station.
In the news today is a bill HR 875 -a Monsanto-thrusted challenge to ANY AND ALL NON-CORPORATE FARMS AS WELL AS THE BIGGER GUYS THAT WILL PROBABLY BE GOBBLED BY THIS FOOD/LAND MOLESTING behemouth.
